Quarantine Uncertainty

I was going to write about travel guide and tips, but it seems inappropriate to share that in this current situation.

Everything has been canceled, from your travel plans to religious festivities, even graduations and celebrations are canceled.

Life is filled with uncertainty, especially at times like this. Everyone has their own coping mechanism, it makes me think how people respond to this feeling called uncertainty.

There’s this moral alignment grid from a role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons — a tool used to determine what kind of character identity you are playing. In reality, there are those who are under-prepared, over-prepared, in a state of panic, in a state of calm, and everyone else in between. Where you want to be is in a calm and sufficiently prepared spot.

However, even if you are calm you can still be over-prepared. Law of diminishing returns, also referred to as law of diminishing marginal returns applies to this situation. The more you prepare the better you can manage the problems you’re dealing with. Up until a point will eventually be reached where those benefits will start to decrease. It’s best to stop within this phase or else you’re just wasting your time preparing more than you’re supposed to.

Whatever efforts you have made in planning your future there will always be uncertainty. Even if you already have a master plan, there’s still numerous things you can do — the fact that you can’t plan for everything.

There are many circumstances in your life that you must accept and there will be things that you can’t control. Everything is changing rapidly right now. Inevitable events will surely come and ruin your itinerary ultimately. But don’t worry everything will return to it’s designed path. Now, let me share to you some tips on how to have serenity in any given situation.

Coping tips for uncertain times:

1. Get your facts straight (combat misinformation).

2. Accept what you can’t control.

3. Focus only on what matters most.

4. Learn to adapt to change.

5. Keep calm.

As we are adjusting to this new world, if you have the stay-at-home option, stay at home and be alert until this situation will be in control, until the scientists found vaccine to it, until things will go back to normal. Stay cautious, you’ll never know when it will come to you and your family, it is better be safe than to face an unpleasant consequence later.

So, let’s be one and help each other in this difficult times. Who else can help to win this battle, but ourselves.
