The world created by mankind asks too much while giving way less; the natural Earth gives too much while only asks for little amount back. This is the sad reality that most people have accepted with no question asked. Everyday we woke up stuck in this endless cycle of eat-work-sleep repeat. Others have different cycle but they are still stuck on the same loop forever. Very few could say that they are free and can do whatever they want to do. Is this really what we want for the rest of our lives?
The planet Earth gives us enough food for us to share with everyone and yet we humans have found a way to exploit it and caused severe hunger through the rest of our under privileged brothers and sisters. The worst part about this is that we seemed to be blind about this fact. One of the reason that makes us blind is that we ourselves struggle too much everyday to feed ourselves and our family. We tend to stick to the endless cycle because the world that we have created does not permit us to do otherwise. We see people on the street begging for food and money and yet we seldom give them something to eat. It seems that we lost our humanity because we look at them as if they are not humans. Same as us, they also struggle everyday but way worse than what we experience. Studies have shown that we even have more empathy towards dogs than our fellow men. I have seen a lot of over fed and pampered pets than people and I know you do too. Statistics have shown that approximately 25,000 people die due to starvation every single day. And some of them are children. Lack of food causes malnutrition which if not treated properly can cause death.
Our planet asks us for love and in return, it provided us with life. This seems a simple task given that most of us are able to do this. However, if we expand our horizon by studying and being aware of the events that are happening around the world, we would see that we are very far from achieving this. We have seem to have created war that has destroyed billions if not trillions of all life forms. We over kill our ocean for fishes and other marine treasures. We do this by dynamite fishing, unsustainable fishing, pollution, military trainings, climate change, pollution, oil and gas exploitation, sloppy tourism and development.
The world also did not forget to give us trees and precious metals for us to use for shelter and other progressive development. However, we have also found a way to exploit them. We did massive deforestation that animals no longer have a place called home. We destroyed mountains that gives shelter to million of species and protects us from typhoons. We mined the land and causes way too much destruction that in came to the point in where it is almost irreversible.
The planet has also provided us with endless chances for learning. Yet we somehow developed an educational system in which instead of helping us grow, it dumb us down. It blinded us to the most important lessons that we need in life. One of the best example is that after finishing college level education, we seemed to be lost and passion less. Thinking if we have been wrong our whole life and ended up being in depression. This education system also lead us to this point of event that everything we seem to touch ends up in destruction. And because of that, we begin to be stuck in the never ending loop that helps us forget what really living means.
To put this in a much simpler way, imagine if you let a stranger into your home. You feed that person, gave everything needed for survival way too much and in return, you only ask for him/her to take care of your home. Instead, you found out that the stranger you took care with all your heart stole your food, taken away your jewelry and other precious things, flooded your bathroom, killed your pets, polluted the air, caused war with your neighbor, murdered your family, set everything on fire, and then blame you in the end and saying that you have not provided enough and they own the place. This is what the Earth must have felt but only a million times more.
I always believe in our capacity as a human being to change for the better. It is never too late to improve our lifestyle. If we brought ourselves and the world in to this, we could always get out of this. Let us start by learning everyday and expand our horizon. See the line where the sky meets the sea? I see that too and let’s get together and go beyond that. This man made world deserves better. Most importantly, we deserve the best.
